Position Objective:

 

Manage the daily operation of the ABMNA Bake Lab ensuring high standards of H&S, cleanliness and operational efficiency. Manage Bake Lab technicians providing clear direction on work objectives and ensuring they operate effectively and safely. Further develop the AB Mauri range of products within North America to maximize competitive advantage and grow market share. Assure new/improved market segment products are based on market evaluations, technical sales, and customer inputs and fully tested prior to market introduction. Perform testing on field samples to assure AB Mauri products are consistent and competitive. Recommend product enhancements or reformulations as necessary based on lab testing. Support the procurement team to reduce costs and risk by evaluating alternative raw materials.

Performance Standards

New Product Development

Direct and communicate development of new and improved product solutions to sales and marketing so that new products are well understood and are launched successfully.

Contribute to the business objectives and strategic plans by developing, formulating and testing new products to meet customer requirements.   Ensure new products meet internal specifications before market introduction/launch.

Work with AB Mauri Technical Service and Sales teams to determine customer and product requirements in conjunction with customer's technical, purchasing and marketing personnel.

Manage technology innovation; using publication and patent information to identify and understand new opportunities for business growth.

Collaborate within AB Mauri and ABF technology groups; evaluate and report on potential new AB Mauri products from other ABF companies, as required.

Support and adhere to the Internal Business Plan, Quality and Product Management Processes including all documentation and reporting.

Bakery Lab

Develop Bake Lab test methodology which is reliable and representative of industry standards so that test results closely represent bakery production applications.

Train Bake Lab technicians in the principles of accurate, reproducible test baking techniques.

Ensure personnel working within the Bake Lab are suitably trained in the use of Bake Lab bakery equipment.

Ensure lab meets regulatory requirements

Ensure lab equipment is operational and maintained in clean, organized manner. Schedule maintenance and repairs as needed.

Ensure the test bakery is clean and orderly.

Ensuring adequate stocks of finished product and raw materials are available for tests.

Technical Services

Conduct bakery trials to optimize and validate new products in conjunction with sales and/or tech service personnel.

Develop product bulletins on existing and all new products/categories so that internal and external customers understand functionality of products.

Identify and communicate customer trends and possible product opportunities to sales, marketing and technical teams so that "New Technology" projects are properly focused and agreed upon.

Support technical service personnel as required so that customer satisfaction is achieved.

Conduct sales/customer technical training seminars, as required.

Quality Assurance

Provide timely, professional customer support by way of phone, fax or e-mail followed up with on site support when required.

Collaborate with Supply Chain, QA and customers to substantiate and/or remedy customer complaints to minimize product liability as requested.

Test samples of AB Mauri Ingredients or yeast products, as required.

Reporting

Actively update management on progression of projects using the internal documentation process. Complete weekly and monthly report(s) by due date.

Communicate results/conclusions and recommendations of new product testing in accurate and timely manner to all appropriate personnel.

Expense Control

Comply with the Corporate Travel policy and control spending.

Contribute to department and capital budget preparations to ensure budget meets laboratory needs, as requested.

Human Resource Management

Ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures and relevant employment laws.

Be an effective, accountable and valued member of the technology team

Other

Keep abreast of Bakery and Baking Ingredient Technology by attending appropriate seminars, professional meetings.

Represent AB Mauri in a professional manor at trade shows, seminars and training courses.

A COMBINATION OF THE LISTED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE IS PREFERRED

 

Bachelor's degree in bakery science, food science or related discipline, or have a minimum of ten (10) years in managing product development, quality assurance or research laboratory.

Exhibits strong leadership skills.

Knowledge of all phases of wholesale and retail bakery production and ingredients.

Strong project management and handling multiple priority skills.

Strong PC, word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.

Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal relations skills.

Strong analytical and organizational skills.

Literacy with integrated business systems.

Experience in experimental baking and formulation.

Previous knowledge and information on product development.
