Position

Objective:

 

This position is responsible for managing and maintaining food safety and quality related documents from suppliers. Creating, updating and reviewing raw material, packaging and finish product specifications. Conducting risk assessment on raw materials, primary packaging and new suppliers. Conducting supplier food safety assessments, audits and other required monitoring activities. Part of the team that coordinates the review process for supplier approval. Responsible for communicating with cross functional and operating groups any raw material, packaging and/or supplier issue.  

The Quality Analyst is responsible for assuring compliance of federally regulated product label information, including nutrition, ingredient declarations, allergens and claims (e.g. gluten-free labeling, PHO, Non-GMO/GE, Organic)

Responsible for making approved revisions to specifications in a timely manner. This may include communicating with sales, procurement, marketing, research and development, and the production facilities to accurately obtain the information needed for a specification update.

This individual will work across functions and is expected to communicate with all functional and operating groups on specification, labeling related and compliance matters.

Performance Standards:

Corporate Quality Assurance

Administer ABM Supplier Code of Practice, Supplier Approval Questionnaire and Raw Material Questionnaires to suppliers.

Collaborate with Product Specification Specialist to create raw material, packaging and finish product specification.

Create and send supplier letters/inquiries for special projects, customer requests for information or to assure compliance with new internal/external, legal or food safety requirements

Track and maintain supplier food safety documentation ensuring all documents are up to date.

Conduct periodic audits to review and maintain the accuracy of raw material and finished product specification for 3rd party manufactured goods.

Contributes to the improvement of supplier quality management related processes and procedures

Conduct ingredient and supplier risk assessment to determine appropriate ranking

Manage the review process for new and existing raw materials and suppliers

Conduct food safety assessments or audits for high risk suppliers

Manage relationship with suppliers

Address emerging regulatory issues pertaining to food labeling and ensure compliance with current and evolving regulation.

Communicate with cross functional teams regarding current and emerging food labeling issues and opportunities.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current regulations and relevant technical product and processing information.

Responsible for verification of the overall label accuracy including the correct formatting, translations, and ingredient statements ensuring the information matches specification.

Plant Quality

Develop and implement a robust monitoring and testing regime to ensure raw materials and packaging conform to specification.

Coordinate regular monitoring meetings with Plant Quality Managers and Purchasing for supplier documentation

Manage pre-audit supplier programs preparation for manufacturing plants

Provide timely communication to plant and procurement when non-conformances are noted on either the raw material or supplier

Develop tracking and audit system to ensure plants are only using approved raw materials and/or suppliers

Manage and update supplier files

Procurement

Collaborate with procurement to ensure all food safety and quality related documents are obtained from suppliers

Flag and communicate any changes in raw material specification to procurement

Effectively problem-solve and leverage supplier relationships and tools to minimize impact of sourcing and production challenges.

Coordinate projects identifying alternate sourcing of ingredients for quality improvement and cost reduction

Provide functional support and expertize in the supplier/raw material approval process

Innovation/Product Development

Collaborate with Innovation team to ensure key functional attributes are included on raw material specifications from suppliers

Work with NPD to ensure all relevant product qualification tests are conducted prior to approving a raw material

Review raw material specification to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and company established specifications

Provide guidance to the product development process (new and reformulated products) to ensure regulatory and business requirements are met (product claims, ingredient guidelines, allergens, product name etc.).

Evaluate labeling impact of product reformulation to inform packaging transitions and product/package disposition decision.

Human Resource Management

Comply with HR policies and procedures.

Comply with relevant employment laws.

Communicate changes to specification to both internal and external customer expeditiously

A Combination of the listed Skills AND KNOWLEDGE is preferred

Bachelor's degree in Food Science/Food Technology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Food and Nutrition, Engineering, Food Safety, Quality Management or related field required.

3-5 years hands-on experience in managing or leading food safety & quality programs

3-5 years of experience in labeling, food labeling regulation or writing technical specification in a food or pharmaceutical industry

Experience performing GFSI, food safety and quality audits

2-3 years of experience working with suppliers and managing supplier relationships

Knowledge of FDA's Food Safety Modernization Act

Working knowledge of raw material and product specification requirements

Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable working with cross-functional teams

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to streamline processes and procedures

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Organized, detail-oriented, and excellent technical writing skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Self-directed, motivated and good time management
